Calcium citrate contains 21 percent elemental calcium, and calcium lactate and calcium gluconate contain 13 and 9 percent, respectively. Absorption of calcium citrate is higher than that of calcium carbonate. If your diet does not include an adequate amount of calcium, Lippomix's high quality calcium supplement could provide you with health benefits. It's the easy way to keep your bones healthy and strong. A lifetime of regular exercise and a healthy diet that includes calcium builds and maintain good bone health and may reduce the risk of osteoporosis late in life. Daily intakes above 1,000 mg are not proven to provide any additional benefits to bone health.
Vitamin D helps the body to regulate the transport of calcium from the digestive system through the bloodstream to bone. It also assists in the retention of calcium and phosphorus. Lippomix's Vitamin D is 100% natural cholecalciferol. We use a dry form, specially formulated for easy absorption. It contains no artificial ingredients or preservatives.
Vitamin D deficiency is quite common in cases of hip fractures. A look-back study of 548 patients older than 60 years of age who were admitted at South Glasgow University Hospital in Scotland in the previous years, showed that 97 percent of the patients had vitamin D levels below normal. Dr. Stephen Gallacher, lead researcher and consultant endocrinologist at the hospital, at that time, said: ''Although the numbers were too small to justify extensive subgroup analyses the study appears to demonstrate that vitamin D inadequacy represents a significant correctable risk factor for fragility fracture and perhaps specifically for the hip."
Older men and women who fail to get enough vitamin D -- either from their diets or exposure to the sun -- are at heightened risk for muscle weakness and poor physical performance. This is troubling given the high numbers of older folks who are deficient in vitamin D. However, even good sun exposure does not guarantee adequate blood levels of vitamin D. In many individuals, vitamin D level can remain low despite abundant exposure to sunlight.

- One in seven adults has been reported to be vitamin D deficient.4 In hospitalized patients under age sixty-five, 42% were reported to be vitamin D deficient.5 This same report found that 37% of the people studied were vitamin D deficient despite the fact that they were eating the currently recommended amount of this nutrient. Vitamin D deficiency is particularly common in the elderly. [Chapuy M-C, Preziosi P, Maamer M, et al. Prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency in an adult normal population. - Nutritionally oriented doctors recommend calcium citrate/malate (CCM). Research shows that calcium citrate/malate (CCM) absorbs better than most other forms. Calcium citrate/malate (CCM) may also be more effective in maintaining bone mass than some other forms of calcium supplements. Because of their similarity in both name and structure, calcium citrate/malate (CCM) can be confused with calcium citrate, but they are not the same. [Miller J, Smith D, Flora L, et al. Calcium absorption from calcium carbonate and a new form of calcium CCM) in healthy male and female adolescents. Am J Clin Nutr 1988;48:1291–94. Harvey JA, Kenny P, Poindexter J, Pak CYC.
